On September 21, the first annual 5k Fight Against Prostate Cancer got underway in New York City's Central Park. Over 1,100 men, women and children turned out to help bring this killer disease out of the silence and into the light of public awareness.
The facts are startling:
- One in 4 men will contract prostate cancer in his lifetime
- 317,000 new cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed last year
- 113 men succumb to this insidious disease every day.
Prostate cancer is the leading form of cancer among American men, and the second most fatal. Yet for too long prostate cancer has been suffered in silence - cloaked in fear and shame. To the Prostate Cancer Initiative, it was time to bring this disease out of the silence and into the light of public awareness. But How?
